CONSONANT is an acoustic design + research collaborative providing thoughtful, responsible, and innovative solutions at the intersection of sound, space, and human experience.
Responding to the Latin root for Consonant, sounding together, we pursue beautiful, creative, and integrated solutions that connect people, in place and space, for performance and purpose.
The focus of our work is performance and assembly spaces. Our expertise includes the design of spaces for music, theater, worship, speech communication, learning, broadcast + media, recording + production, and all spaces where form and performance come together for people to listen, learn, and connect.

While there are similarities in context, program, and approach, each acoustic design challenge is unique, warranting a thoughtful and effective solution. At CONSONANT, we listen first, and then we develop dedicated acoustic design solutions for each circumstance, while integrating with the design and performance goals of the users and the other design disciplines.
RESPONSIBLE
All CONSONANT acoustic designs embrace a responsibility to budget, context, energy sustainability, and an integrated dialogue with the goals of other design disciplines. We do not propose over-designed solutions. Instead, we seek cost-appropriate, reliable, and durable designs that serve users’ immediate and future performance needs.
INNOVATIVE
Founded on a spirit of design inquiry, at CONSONANT we see every project as an opportunity to learn and to innovate. For each design, we continually intersect tested and reliable approaches with distinctive solutions. Innovation, in our estimation, is a creative act, and is not tantamount to highly-visible, nor expensive, exploration. Our innovations may take the form of spatial configuration, material assembly, connection details, or a clever approach to multi-functional design. Each pursuit is a forum for learning, growing, and improving, both in our practice and in our results.
